Late Group Captain Taher Quddus (Retd) President, BPSSPA (2004 – 2013)
Group Captain Taher Quddus began his distinguished career in the Pakistan Air Force as a General Duties Navigator (GDN) in 1958. A decorated officer, he saw active combat during the Indo-Pak War of 1965, flying sorties with the PAF’s B-57 Bomber Squadron. Following the war, he was assigned to Military Intelligence, serving in both West and East Pakistan. In 1968, he was posted to the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi as Second Secretary .
In 1970, he was deputed to the Royal Saudi Arabian Air Force in Riyadh. However, during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971, he was recalled, subsequently imprisoned, and held as a Prisoner of War in Shaghai Fort, Pakistan. After three years in captivity, he was repatriated to Bangladesh in 1974.
Upon his return, he joined the newly formed Bangladesh Air Force as Director of Air Intelligence and eventually served as Base Commander in Chittagong, retiring in 1979. He later served as Chairman of the Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation before concluding his government service in 1981.
In 1988, he founded Securex Limited, which is widely regarded as the first commercial private security company in Bangladesh. Through this initiative, he pioneered the development of the country’s private security industry. His vision and leadership transformed the sector, establishing industry standards and laying the foundation for its rapid growth.
In 2004, he was appointed President of the Bangladesh Professional Security Services Providers Association (BPSSPA), a position he held until his passing in 2013. During his tenure, he was instrumental in advocating for regulatory reforms and professional guidelines that shaped the future of the industry.
Group Captain Taher Quddus is fondly remembered as the “Father of Private Security Services in Bangladesh.” His contributions to national security, both in military and civilian capacities, remain unparalleled and deeply respected.
Late Major Syed Golam Mokaddes (Retd) Secretary-General, BPSSPA (2005-2021)
Major Syed Golam Mokaddes, a visionary leader of the professional security service business of Bangladesh. He ascended through the ranks, from a valiant freedom fighter, to a decorated army officer, to a passionate entrepreneur – training and leading tens of thousands of men and women with empathy and heart.
Major Syed Golam Mokaddes was born on July 31st, 1955 in Thakurgaon, Dinajpur. In 1971, he fought the glorious Liberation War in Sector 7, Hamzapur District. He was commissioned in Bangladesh Army on Nov 2, 1975 as a 2nd Lieutenant in Bengal Cavalry. He was a part of a contingent that spent 8 months in China for special Armoured course. Upon returning from China, he was promoted to a Captain of the 93 Armoured Brigade and posted at the Armoured Headquarters in Bogura. In 1983, after having worked in the G3 Intelligence at the 93 Armoured Brigade, he was promoted to the rank of Major and posted as the Officer in Command of the Field Intelligence Unit (FIU). Following which, in 1985, he was on deputation in Jessore as the Officer in Command of the 8 Battalion of formerly Bangladesh Rifles (BDR).
Post retirement in 1992 , he started his entrepreneurial journey in 1992 by forming Vigilance Security Services as a partnership venture. In 1994, he started his own private security service company- Punarbhaba Security Services Limited. His passion, dedication and determination established PSSL as one of the leading security agencies in Bangladesh. He was elected as the Secretary-General of BPSSPA in 2005 in which he remained till his death in 2021. In the last 27 years, he dedicated his career to security services, employing tens of thousands of Bangladeshis. Throughout his career he was deeply involved with the people he served and those that he employed, commonly recalling the names of all his employees, their ages, and where they were born as proof of his exemplary leadership.
